Church musicians have always engaged in composition. In this production, Cantica Sacra, we meet one of our time's composing church musicians; Malmo organist Hampus Sondrebo and some of his works from the years 2020-2022. Sondrebo's music moves in a sound world where the harmony is often free or polytonal. Several of the works are based, more or less explicitly, on Gregorian melodies and chorales from the Evangelical Lutheran hymn tradition. This is simply newly composed church music, deeply rooted in its tradition. Among the artists on the album are soprano Elin Eriksson, pianist Markus Kvint, and organist Jesper Glans. The cantata Tatt intill korset is performed by the Chamber Choir at the Malmo Academy of Music, orchestra, and soloists, under the direction of Mats Paulson.
