Description
The songs we have collected here originate in Cumbria and Northumberland - the area once known as The Marches; Westmarch, Middlemarch and Eastmarch.They are saturated with a sense of place, and full of the names of towns, villages, farmsteads, hills, rivers and other topographical features. As you listen, they unroll themselves like a musical map of the region, and draw upon its rich folk-life and its often dark and bloody history. We found them in various dusty tomes, nooks and niches; most have never been recorded before. -
