The Story goes that when David Rees-Williams's reworking of Purcells's "When I Am Laid In Earth" first hit the airwaves, cyberspace was crowded with appreciative e-mails. Why? After all, the formula wasn't especially new, Jacques Loussier had already swung Bach with similar forces to similar effect. But not perhaps with such a consistant grip on the founding musical idea. David Rees-Williams brings a distinctive personal flavour to the music he is revisits. These are not just jazzed up Classics, but genuine reinterpretations that never lose sight of their musical roots.
