Description
Leading Danish composer Bernhard Lewkovitch turned 85 in May last year. This CD is the sequel to the album "All My Springs" released by Kontrapunkt in 1998 and features his 30 Danish Motets and 18 Latin Motets performed by the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir conducted by Ebbe Munk.
Educated at the musical conservatories in Paris and Copenhagen, Bernhard Lewkovitch has worked as an organist and cantor at the Catholic St. Ansgar's Cathedral in Copenhagen. His upbringing and educational background in the Roman Catholic environment has given him a unique insight into the liturgy and its music. Combined with his interest and experiment in contemporary music, both his sacred and secular works have brought him considerable fame. His works include various pieces for instrumental ensembles, along with numerous compositions for mixed choir.
Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir was founded in 1924 and quickly developed into a full-time institution with the boys receiving their general education alongside a full musical and vocal training at the Copenhagen Municipal Choir School. Since Ebbe Munk became director of the choir in 1991 they have undertaken concerts in leading concert halls, cathedrals and festivals all over the world.
