Description
Career defining release from the ever popular Coal Porters. Taking their Bluegrass inspired oeuvre to even wider horizons. Enhanced CD includes mini documentary about the band.
Produced by the legendary Ed Stasium, the man at the desk recording and/or producing the greatest Ramones tracks from 1977 to 1984. Ed Stasium was also the main engineer for Phil Spector from 1976 to 1982. He was worked with Mick Jagger, Gladys Knight & the Pips and many others including his successful productions of the Long Ryders, Jeff Healey Band, The Smithereens and Belinda Carlisle.
The album was recorded in Colorado USA April 2008 via the "Basement Tapes" style with the musicians playing live in a relatively small room in a private home with little baffling and the band all looking at each other as they played...not a soul separated by glass or partitions.
Guest artists on the record are Peter Rowan, who sang and played guitar on his song 'Moonlight Midnight', and Tim O'Brien who played mandolin on 'Roadkill Breakdown'.
The Coal Porters are ex-Long Ryder Sid Griffin, now a noted author (last book the 15,000 plus selling Million Dollar Bash: Bob Dylan, The Band & the Basement Tapes), banjo virtuoso Dick Smith (ex the legendary Lost T-Shirts Of Atlantis), classically trained fiddler Carly Frey (two years playing violin worldwide with the Barrage roadshow), Neil Robert Herd on guitar (finished second to Frank Skinner as Best New Stand-up at the 1992 Edinburgh Festival Comedy Awards and solicitor (!) Andrew Stafford on doghouse bass.
