The works were written for Annette von Menz, the daughter of rich merchant Anton Melchior von Menz who was responsible for gathering the Toggenburg Music Collection in Bolzano, Italy (former Austro-Hungarian county of Tyrol). Annette held musical soirees at her home and in turn composers wrote music especially for these occasions. Among them the four composers that can be heard on this recording.
