From his very early years, Eug?¿ne Ysa??e began to compose everything for his instrument, the violin. He composed eight violin concertos alone, child's play that he later destroyed - with the exception of the Concerto No. 8 later revised and orchestrated by his grandson. As a mature composer, only the six solo sonatas written by Ysa??e just prior to his death have remained present in the public mind and in performance practice. The works on this disc capture a sense of Ysa??e's inherited musical understanding from previous generations of instrument craftsmen as well as his ideas about the future, pushing the musical boundaries of his day.
