The themes of Boreal Atrophy's first full length, '...And the Heavens Are Scoured by Scarlet' were initially born from a collection of poems written in England. Following the project's relocation to Norway, the music itself would begin to form, shaped by an environmentalist perspective on the real time decay of Norwegian nature and woodland.
Although predominantly influenced by second wave black metal, the music often strays into other territories, influenced by the British stylings of alternative and shoegaze. The album consists of six tracks, each taking the listener on a unique journey, whether it be the folk- tinged assault of 'Autumn Falls Upon Us All (Host)', or the morose DSBM of 'Silvester Ende'. Despite the range of styles on display, a sense of foreboding looms over the entire album.
The album has received praise within the international scene, with engagement and promotion in countries such as Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Japan.
'...And The Heavens Are Scoured by Scarlet' is a melding of minds, with contributors from established Norwegian projects Vetter and Finnskogen. The barely controlled chaos of the vocals and guitar work, the prevalent bass and production, and the prog-rock influenced drumming, aim to leave an impression of collapsing majesty seared onto the darkest recesses of the listener's mind.
