Description
'Warm My Soul' is the second album by French producer Blundetto, whose unique sound - a mixture of soulful reggae and funk, with strong Latin and hip hop vibes - has seen him championed by DJs such as Gilles Peterson and Laurent Garnier. The album comes with deluxe packaging that includes a poster and stickers.
'Warm My Soul' features the singer Hugh Coltman for the cover of soul classic "Hercules", Afro funk/jazz band Akalé Wubé, legendary skater Tommy Guerrero on folky guitars, the golden voice of Reggae star Courtney John, the rapper Aqueel and New York vocalist Jahdan Blakkamoore.
Blundetto (real name Max Guiget) has been a programmer at Radio Nova (Paris' hippest station) since 1998. He also produces music which is a melting pot of Latin, soul, reggae/dancehall, jazz and funk, and now with an additional, very cinematic feel thanks to the introduction of lush strings. For his second album he decided to move towards a pared-down, less madcap sound.
'Warm My Soul' is the sound of a bad boy who's tidied up his room a little bit. Or his home studio, to be more precise - despite the fact that the room in his small flat between Barbès and the Gare du Nord is packed with vinyl records, vintage machines, exotic percussion instruments and overflowing ashtrays.
"It's homely," says the owner, "in spite of the mess. I record everything here; I hardly ever go into a real studio."
