  • Description

Devon songs and tunes with guitar, bouzouki, hurdy gurdy, cittern and fiddle.

Steve began playing the hurdy gurdy in 1993, adding this instrument to the sound of the recently formed medieval music ensemble Misericordia. In 1996, they joined with melodeon player Julian Sutton to form The Wendigo, playing their own compositions inspired by the traditional dance music of central France. With Andy, Steve plays hurdy gurdy and cittern but he also plays gothic harp and citole. Steve has also done work with the Jackie Oates band and is a driving force in the band Angles.

Andy's roots go back to the 1960s where, as a child in his native Devon, he visited many folk song clubs with his father, himself a musician and singer. Andy discovered a passion for traditional song. He cut his teeth as a performer in his late teens on the overseas forces folk club circuit, and upon his return to the UK he became involved in folk bands in and around Torbay, where he got involved with the running of a local folk club. (Andy now helps to run the Totnes Folk Club.) His programme often includes a selection from the manuscripts of Baring-Gould the 19th century West Country folksong collector.
