Description
Following their much-acclaimed 'Songs For Unsung Heroes', the multi-award-winning team of composer/bandleader/jazz musician, Alan Barnes and playwright/lyricist, Alan Plater, have now come up with "Seven Ages Of Jazz" - the story of jazz in the UK in music and song. The all-star octet features Stan Sulzmann, Bruce Adams, Mark Nightingale and Brian Dee plus the superb styling of vocalist Liz Fletcher.
The saga begins in 1919, with the arrival of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band at the Hammersmith Palais, continues with tributes to home-grown musicians Nat Gonella, Ronnie Scott, Stan Tracey, John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, illustrious visitors like Zoot Sims and subjects hitherto ignored by song-writers, including Geraldo's Navy and jazz musicians marooned in bars at two O'clock in the morning.
Personnel: Alan Barnes (alto/baritone/tenor saxes, clarinet), Liz Fletcher (vocals), Stan Sulzmann (tenor sax, flute), Robert Fowler (tenor sax), Bruce Adams (trumpet), Mark Nightingale (trombone), Brian Dee (piano), Simon Thorpe (bass), Clark Tracey (drums)
