Description
This recording rediscovers, after about 80 years, a remarkable musical personality of the early 20th century, the Transylvanian-born German composer Norbert von Hannenheim. His works are performed by the charismatic Romanian violist Aida-Carmen Soanea with Russian pianist Igor Kamenz.
Praised by Schoenberg for his "exceptional talent", Norbert von Hannenheim (1898-1945) was ostracized by the Nazi regime and his music was defined as "degenerate". He died just after the end of the war in a mental institution. His entire oeuvre was thought to have been destroyed by American bombing on Berlin, but following many years of research, a handful of his works were rediscovered at the beginning of this century. These five certainly enrich the viola repertoire of the Second Viennese School.
Personnel: Aida-Carmen Soanea (viola), Igor Kamenz (piano), Adrian Pizaru (violin)
