Description
Frank Stokes was one of the leading figures in the history of early American music. Besides being an excellent blues performer he was also a master of the ragtime-breakdown style centered around Memphis from the late 1800's through to the end of the 1920's.
His superb guitar playing is complimented perfectly by the guitar stylings of his partner, Dan Sane: together they were known as the Beale Street Sheiks. Stokes' singing is both powerful and delightful, his performances imparting an irresistible syncopation. Assembled here are his 23 best tracks remastered to a high fidelity standard. -
