  • Description

Following on from the warm reception for their debut albumThe Sacred Key - which was nominated for two major Australian music awards - Vazesh return with their exquisite new album,Tapestry. Recorded, like their debut, live in concert,Tapestry showcases not just further aspects of Vazesh's multifaceted palette, but also a deepening of the musical bonhomie and telepathy between these three master musicians - Sydney-born jazz/improv mavens Jeremy Rose on bass clarinet, tenor and soprano saxophones and Lloyd Swanton on double bass, and Iranian-born Hamed Sadeghi on tar.

Exquisitely recorded by Peter Nelson at the Annandale Creative Arts Centre, and mixed by Richie Belkner at Free Energy Device,Tapestry bountifully portrays sonorous and joyous collisions between an ancient, venerable musical tradition, and the very latest in contemporary improv.
Hamed Sadeghi is a renowned Persian tar player and composer. He has performed at festivals venues and concert halls around the world as solo and collaborative musical and theatrical projects. He has been nominated at the Sydney Theatre Awards for the best mainstage score and AMC Art Music Award for best Chamber Music. His band Eishan Ensemble has been touring regularly nationally and internationally since 2016.

Jeremy Rose is a prolific saxophonist, composer and educator from Sydney, Australia. He is known for his wide breadth of work, gift for vibrant melody and musical curiosity. His career spans over 25 unique original recordings as a leader and over 150 published works. His current ensembles include The Earshift Orchestra, The Vampires, Vazesh, Visions of Nar, Project Infinity and the Jeremy Rose Quartet. Rose has received numerous accolades for his work, including an ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album, the APRA/AMCOS Art Music Award for Improvised/Jazz Performance of the Year, two Bell Awards and a short-listing for the Australian Music Prize. As a label director of Earshift Music, Rose has fostered a community of creative musicians throughout Australasia which Sydney Morning Herald describes as "Australia's most significant outlet for jazz-related music." The label celebrated 15 years in 2024 with over 90 releases.

Lloyd Swanton is co-founder of one of the great cult bands of Australia, the piano trio The Necks. They have released 20 albums since 1986 and regularly perform throughout the world. They were the first band to receive the Richard Gill Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music at the 2019 Art Music Awards. Swanton appears on over one hundred albums including several ARIA Award winners, and has produced four ARIA Award winners by Bernie McGann.

"It's the closest thing to telepathy I've seen. The audience applauds, satisfied by the class, the brevity, the structural perfection and rich invention of Rose, Sadeghi and Swanton's Vazesh." - ***** Limelight Magazine

"buoyant invention; never seeming to flag or at want for new ideas, he is that rare thing, an improvisor you want to hear more from." - Jazzwise, Stuart Nicholson

"Captivating.... the uncanny effect being of three human voices singing in harmony." - **** Sydney Morning Herald, John Shand
