Description
The debut recording for the Orchestra Sparagnina, conducted by Ambrogio Sparagna, unites young performers with one of the most important artists of the new Italian folk music. It is dedicated to the revival of original songs in 'griko', an ancient Greek dialect still used in some areas of Salento.
The orchestra consists of about thirty young singers and musicians who have studied an original repertoire of traditional songs from Greek Salento, whose texts were passed down orally. Principally vocal music the vocalists accompany themselves with tambourines as well as concertinas, guitar and percussion.
