Description
With just two guitarists and a vocalist/bassist Orchestra Coco perform classic songs, plus a few lesser-known ones, from the 1930s, '40s, '50s, '60s, and even later. Drawn mainly from Italian swing and melodic repertoire, they include tributes to great musicians, from Norma Bruni to Natalino Otto, from Paolo Conte to Tom Waits.
In 2010, Augusto Creni, Marco Maturo and Lucio Villani met at the Django Reinhardt International festival in Samois and immediately decided to form the Orchestra Coco with the clear intent of playing Manouche music, based on Lucio Villani's style of singing and bass playing. They have a vast repertoire from the tradition of Django Reinhardt down to the Italian songs of the 40's, to Paolo Conte and Johnny Cash. At the same time they have developed a personal and captivating sound suited to this eclectic repertoire.
Personnel: Augusto Creni (guitar), Marco Maturo (guitar), Lucio Villani (bass, vocals)
