Description
This compilation presents the very best of Wink Martindale's early record career, mainly for Dot Records between 1958-62, but kicking off with a pair of almost unfeasibly rare R&R 45s recorded for a tiny indie label, OJ, in 1957. Many of these sides are hard to find elsewhere on CD.
In Britain, Wink Martindale is known solely for his signature hit, the multi-platinum 'Deck Of Cards', which has made the UK charts on three separate occasions, 1959, 1963 and 1973. However in the US, where Martindale has enjoyed a seven-decade career, he is an acknowledged high profile multi-media personality, having had successes as a disc jockey, radio personality, television game show host, and TV producer.
His spinoff recording career yielded a dozen or so further 45s, which included further US hits, 'Lincoln's Gettysburg Address' and 'Black Land Farmer' and a couple of big-selling, now highly collectable LPs, "Deck Of Cards" and "Big Bad John".
Although now in his late eighties, Wink is still active as a TV presenter in the US.
