Presented here is the complete original album Oscar Peterson Plays the Cole Porter Songbook, by the Oscar Peterson Trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen. Recorded in 1959, this was Peterson's second attempt to produce a Porter songbook.
For this extended edition, further Porter compositions recorded by Peterson on various occasions have been added, including all the songs from the first Cole Porter songbook he had made in 1952 with Ray Brown on bass and Barney Kessel on guitar.

With the introduction of the LP in the mid-fifties, jazz entrepreneur Norman Granz presented the jazz world with conceptual albums based on the work of the most famous American songwriters. The most celebrated of these songbooks were the series made by Ella Fitzgerald singing Rodgers & Hart, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter, etc.
The songbooks, however, were not limited to vocal performances as this instrumental homage to Cole Porter by the Oscar Peterson Trio testifies.
