Description
This unique 2-CD set traces the evolution of one of the most popular and versatile DooWop groups of their era, between 1953-1962, through their many and various personnel changes.
They recorded under various identities: The Lamplighters, The Tenderfoots, The Sharps, The Jacks, "Frantic" Johnny Rogers, The Ebbtides, The Twisters, The Four After Fives, The Showstoppers, Dante's Friends, The Crenshaws and finally, The Rivingtons.
Additionally, during this period they also backed artists like Jimmy Witherspoon, Lil Greenwood, Paul Anka, Thurston Harris, Duane Eddy and Sammy Turner, on record.
Several of these sides are serious collectors' rarities, while The Rivingtons' 'Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow' was, famously, the blueprint for The Trashmen's deathless 'Surfin' Bird', some two years hence.
This is the first time that this body of work has been thus compiled, and many of these tracks are unavailable elsewhere on CD.
