  • Description

Gastarbeiter are foreign or migrant workers, particularly those who had moved to West Germany between 1955 and 1973, seeking work as part of a formal guest worker program. Many of us still have clich?s in our heads when we remember this immigrant generation. Associations of men with sad-melancholic looks, besieging train station halls smoking cigarettes, or families providing rising barbecue smoke in city parks are still common.

AYKU's drive in this project is to make the unknown known, and to document this diverse musical culture so that it does not get lost. In addition, with Songs of Gastarbeiter, AYKU want to pay their respects to the first generation and thus fulfill an omission. Because whether in politics, economics or culture, everything that is celebrated today as the success of second or third generation migrants in Almanya has its origins in this generation, according to AYKU. In Songs of Gastarbeiter Vol. 2, AYKU brings together an even wider musical range.

On the album, in addition to many original recordings, there are also this time newly produced tracks. For this AYKU forged a collaboration with Shantel. F or Songs of Gastarbeiter Vol. 2, the DJ and music producer delivers a re-edit of Ata Canani's "Alle Menschen dieser Erde," in which the Italo disco keyboard evokes a never-ending summer. With his version of the song, Shantel manages to not only present Gastarbeiter songs in the here and now, but celebrate their potential for the future. Featuring Shantel, Ata Canani, Toni y Los Santos, Derdiyoklar, Y?ksel ?zkasap, Bayon and many more.
