Description
Stephane Tetreault and Olivier Hebert-Bouchard present Images retrouvees, the second volume of works by Claude Debussy transcribed for cello and piano. The series was inaugurated in 2023 with the first volume, Images oubliees.
Images retrouvees takes us back to Debussy's immense contribution to the piano repertoire and delves deeper into the composer's identity -- patriotic, amorous, curious, thoughtful, and intrigued by novelty. Each work on the album opens a window onto a specific moment in Debussy's life and career, covering almost all of his creative years from the age of 22 to the year of his death.
The Scherzo, L. 39 (1882) and Intermezzo, L. 40b (1882) are the only two pieces on the album originally composed for cello and piano. Rarely-recorded pieces such as Les soirs illumines par l'ardeur du charbon (1916-17) stand alongside better-known works such as L'isle joyeuse (1904), an excerpt from Children's corner L. 119a (1906-08), and Deux arabesques (1890-91), among many others.
All the works (except tracks 1 and 3) were transcribed by Olivier Hebert-Bouchard and Stephane Tetreault.
