Description
This recording explores Chopin's legacy through the works of Liszt, Faure, Szymanowski and Rachmaninov. The ballade, the nocturne, the mazurka and the prelude - all forms closely associated with Chopin - are transformed and reinvented here in very different musical languages. Each of these composers preserves a trace of Chopin's influence whilst transforming it according to his own sensibility: Liszt gives the Ballade an almost symphonic scale, Faure refines the harmonic colours of the Nocturne, Szymanowski juxtaposes Polish folklore with a modern musical language, whilst Rachmaninov sets the Preludes within a profoundly Russian world. Valere Burnon offers a fascinating journey of discovery through a legacy that has inspired - and will continue to inspire - generations of composers.
