Description
This new recording is part of 'The Blue Series'; unique music portraits of the most interesting personalities of the International Chopin Piano Competition. Among the youngest contestants at the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, JJ Jun Li Bui walked away as one of the numbered prize winners, earning sixth place in the final reckoning during October 2021.
He was not the only pianist representing Canada in the finals —there was the ultimate first-prize winner, Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu, too. His prize felt like a fair reflection of his performances across the whole competition, because although his earlier appearances attracted little comment, he gradually worked his way into the audience's consciousness as a pianist to watch.
Certainly, by the end of the Third Stage, JJ Jun Li Bui looked like the 'real thing', as an interesting new Chopin pianist in the making, and no one would have been very surprised to see him make the Final.
At the age of 17, the Canadian pianist received the Sixth Prize of the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. He is studying at the Oberlin Conservatory with Dang Thai Son and is a prizewinner of the Hanoi (2018), Aarhus (2017) and Midwest International (2016) piano competitions, as well as competitions for young pianists: the Beijing Chopin Competition (2019) and Van Cliburn (2019).
He has worked with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw, Academy Chamber Orchestra of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Kindred Spirits Orchestra, Greater Toronto Philharmonic, Hanoi Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra of the China Central Conservatory of Music and China Guiyang Symphony Orchestra.
He has performed in North of America, Europe and Asian. Forthcoming appearances include concerts in Japan, Poland, United State and Germany.
