Description
Ewa Poblocka is already present in Chopin Institute catalogue with two Chopin recitals. Here she presents the first book of Bach's greatest keyboard masterpiece: Well-Tempered Clavier, which she recorded in 2018 on a modern instrument.
Our knowledge of the history behind the composing of one of the most emblematic works in the œuvre of Johann Sebastian Bach, his Das Wohltemperierte Klavier (Book I, BWV 846–869; Book II, BWV 870–893), remains remarkably modest. Ernst Ludwig Gerber (1746–1819), author of Tonkunstlerlexicon, a lexicon of musical artists that was highly popular in his day, noted there in 1790: 'according to a certain tradition, he wrote his Tempered Clavier (consisting of fugues and preludes, some of them very intricate, in all the 24 keys) in a place where ennui, boredom, and the absence of any kind of musical instrument forced him to resort to this pastime.'
Ewa Poblocka is one of Poland's most distinguished pianists. She studied at the Music Academy in Gdansk and is the holder of top awards from piano competitions in Vercelli, Bordeaux and Warsaw. Ewa Poblocka has performed throughout most of Europe, as well as both North and South America, Singapore, Korea, Japan, and Australia, appearing in such famous venues as the Herkules-Saal in Munich, the Musikhalle in Hamburg, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Barbican Centre and Wigmore Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, New York's Lincoln Center and Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. She has given concert performances with, among others, London Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Bayerisher Rudfunkorchester, Niederösterreichisches Tonkünstlerorchester, Polish National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw, Polish Chamber Orchestra and the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
