  • Description

    Product Description
Singer, harpist, and multi-instrumentalist, founder member of The Shee, the Emily Portman Trio and more recently The Furrow Collective, Rachel's musicality is much in demand in the folk scene. Having been busy with collaborations such as The Elizabethan Session and touring and recording for the likes of Karine Polwart and Blue Rose Code, this new release marks an opportunity for Rachel to place her solo work to the forefront once more. Rachel's interest in folk tales and songs comes from an early immersion in the Gaelic culture at school in Edinburgh and has been enhanced by working with many intelligent and thoughtful songwriters, playwrights and storytellers since her career in music began. Changeling is a vehicle for Rachel to combine this interest with her considerable instrumental, compositional and arrangement skills. Changeling is based on the varied and fascinating songs and stories from the faerie tales of the same name. A broad description of a changeling is a creature believed to have been left in the place of a human child by the faeries, although there are many different versions and accounts of changelings to be found in the history of Scottish folklore. Rachel takes inspiration from both the Gaelic and English language stories and songs from Scotland, drawing on traditional and original material to create a compositional work that is innovative, adventurous and unique. Rachel's debut solo album 'The Shadow Side' was released in the summer of 2012 to critical acclaim, including a nomination for Album of the Year in the 2012 Scots Trad Music Awards. fRoots were quoted as saying 'A remarkable and mature first album'.

    Review
'A highly original and brilliantly realised album that puts traditional music centre stage and then takes it off on some very original tangents' --R2 Magazine
