  • Description

For the first time, the full-length Herne 3 Rockpalast performance from September 17, 1983, at Gut Opherdicke is available.

These six rock musicians were certainly not the best-known figures from Herne in the world of pop music--after all, there was also Jurgen Marcus and Andrea Jurgens. But they were the only ones who managed to get the rural youth in Wiesensteig or Holstein thinking about the 1975 municipal reorganization of the Ruhr region. That was, of course, due to the band's name. And so, at live concerts and in interviews, they repeated a little catchphrase hundreds of times: "Herne 1 is Herne. Herne 2 used to be called Wanne-Eickel and has now been incorporated. We come from both cities and want to remain independent for mailing purposes--so HERNE 3!"

Starting in 1981, they toured the Ruhr region constantly, playing in numerous music and scene bars as well as youth and cultural centers. In a friend's studio, Herne 3 produced their first single, "Immer wieder aufsteh'n," in 1982. The record, released by a small label, became a Ruhr region hit. The single stayed in the Top 10 of the popular WDR "Schlagerrallye" for over three months. After radio came television: "Aktuelle Stunde," "Teleillustrierte," "Landesspiegel," "Direkt," and later "So isses" and "Popkarton"--and to top it all off, even the "Tagesschau." So much media attention sparked interest. In 1983, HERNE 3 signed a contract with a major label, their second album "Gute Unterhaltung" was released, and the band received an invitation from WDR to perform at Rockpalast. The show was recorded on September 17, 1983, at Gut Opherdicke in the district of Unna (Germany) and was partially broadcast live. The headliner at this festival was the Climax Blues Band. Bryan Adams, who was still relatively unknown in Germany at the time, traveled from America, and Neue Heimat (the predecessor band to Purple Schulz) rounded out the lineup. By 1988, HERNE 3 had released four LPs and several singles and had played more than 500 concerts. And finally, their 1983 Rockpalast performance is available in full for the first time.
