Description
Founded in 1961 by George Kooymans and Rinus Gerritsen, Golden Earring (known as Golden Earrings until 1969) started out as a beat group, then experimented with psychedelia, and subsequently achieved worldwide fame as a rock band. The psychedelic-influenced Eight Miles High album - originally released in 1969 under the name The Golden Earring - is the only record by the group featuring drummer Sieb Warner (ex-Motions). The album is named after the side-filling version of The Byrds' Eight Miles High; at 19 minutes, it is the longest track the group ever recorded. The album was recorded over two weeks in August/September 1969 at the legendary Olympic Sound Studios in London. This expanded edition also includes the single Another 45 Miles, including the B-side I Can't Get A Hold On Her and the shortened mono version of Eight Miles High, which was only released as a promotional single in America. A DVD is also included, featuring the long-awaited restored hour-long television film made by filmmaker Mat van Hensbergen in the summer of 1969, including footage of the recording sessions at Olympic in London. The footage has been transferred and remastered from the original 16mm reels and includes English subtitles. All tracks have been remastered in 24 bit/192 kHz from the original master tapes. The album also includes a 32-page booklet with a story about the making of the album, memorabilia and photographic material.
