Description
Pete Kelly's Blues - directed by and starring Jack 'Dragnet' Webb, in the title role - was an unusually ambitious 1955 movie, a film noir crime musical. It famously featured Peggy Lee (who was Oscar nominated for "Best Supporting Actress"), Ella Fitzgerald, Lee Marvin, Jayne Mansfield and Martin Milner.
Set in Kansas City in the late 1920s, during Prohibition, the movie featured a superb Dixieland jazz soundbed, which span off three separate "official" soundtrack LPs, of which two are included here in in their entirety.
"Pete Kelly's Blues, with narrative by Jack Webb", an all-instrumental selection credited to Jack Webb, Pete Kelly & His Big Seven, and "Songs From Pete Kelly's Blues" by Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald.
Also included are bonus tracks from the third official album, by Ray Heindorf & The Warner Bros Orchestra.
This is a unique collection and this material is virtually impossible to find elsewhere on CD.
