Description
Marie Adams - colloquially nicknamed "TV Mama" - was best known by UK audiences for her role in The Johnny Otis Show with her backing singers, The Three Tons Of Joy.
She'd however enjoyed earlier success as a singer, recording Gospel and R&B material for the Peacock label, before hooking up with Otis in the mid-1950s.
Otis hosted his own radio and TV shows in Los Angeles and Marie, plus sisters Sadie & Francine McKinley, as the Three Tons Of Joy (their combined weight topped 800lbs), were a major focus.
This is the first compilation to encompass all the different elements of Marie's recording career, covering the period 1951-58.
Included are her US hit 'I'm Gonna Play The Honky-Tonks' (#3 R&B, 1952) and the Johnny Otis Show's later UK Top 20 hits 'Ma (He's Makin' Eyes At Me)' (#2, 1957) and 'Bye Bye Baby' (#17, 1958). -
