Fess Williams & the Royal Flush Orchestra
Description
In these days when jazz musicians play to hushed, reverential audiences and are as likely to be found making political statements as playing music, it is hard to appreciate that jazz and the vaudeville tradition are immutably linked. One of the most successful entertainers/bandleaders of the 1920s was STANLEY "FESS" WILLIAMS who, like his white counterpart Ted Lewis, was no great jazz performer on the clarinet and saxophone but attracted talented jazz musicians around him to support his highly individual personality. In a brief five-year recording career, Fess made a substantial number of records that display a wonderfully potent mix of great jazz music, interesting arrangements and Fess' unique talents as an entertainerand musician. The 24 sides included here cover the period 1925 to 1927 and have been audio restored by John R.T. Davies.
