You remember The Lounge Society? Their first single Generation Game was Lauren Laverne's song of the year a while back and their Dan Carey (Fontaines DC, Wet Leg, Warmduscher etc) produced album TIRED OF LIBERTY was on many end of year 'best of' lists ('One of the most refreshing voices in the game right now' NME). Now the first solo single from HERBIE MAY guitarist and co-writer of that band, comes out on vinyl.

The record - a double A side - BLEEDING/SHOELACES was recorded in Leeds with legendary producer Gordon Raphael (The Strokes). Herbie's solo sound is stripped down, raw and emotionally intelligent. 'It's Lou Reed meets Orange Juice!' squealed someone, and they're not wrong. You can also hear influences as varied as Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, The The, and PJ Harvey, although this music is also completely its own thing. A kind of modern electric folk infused with a punk sensibility, the songs are an eloquent, personal and defiant take on what it is to be young and trying to make your way in a world that doesn't much care about you.

To be released on November 7 in a strictly limited edition of 250 vinyl copies, the single is certain to become a rare and treasured collector's item. It also coincides with Herbie's short solo tour as support to post-punk supergroup XGENERATIONX. The record is also the first release on Red Licorice Records. Based in rural West Yorkshire this new label is committed to only putting out tracks they love ('no B sides!') and to rejecting any use of Artificial Intelligence in the writing, recording, production and promotion of their records.
