Description
This new recording taken from the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2025 presents Chinese pianist Tianyao Lyu, who celebrated her seventeenth birthday during the competition. Not just on the grounds of her youthfulness, Lyu was a favourite of many followers of the competition, both in the hall and online. She showed that she already possesses a good sense of Chopin style--in particular, one aspect of it, the glittering style brillant that dominated her repertoire choices in the Second Round. When the results were finally announced this young Chinese pianist was awarded fourth prize (shared ex aequo with Japan's Shiori Kuwahara). All told, the 2025 Chopin Competition will be remembered for having discovered a fresh new talent in Tianyao Lyu. Though a pianist who proved herself capable of producing a big sound where needed, she was especially notable for bringing an almost Mozartian delicacy to the music--an approach that served both her and Chopin well throughout the competition.
