Blodwyn Pig was formed following guitarist and vocalist Mick Abrahams’ departure from Jethro Tull following the release of their debut album in 1968. Also featuring Jack Lancaster (saxophones, flute & violin), Andy Pyle (bass, vocals) and Ron Berg (drums), Blodwyn Pig fused jazzier elements with blues and rock and swiftly became one of the most popular bands on the UK underground circuit. Their albums 'Ahead Rings Out' (1969) and 'Getting To This' (1970) were both top ten hits and they also enjoyed a hit single with 'Same Old Story'. After Abrahams’ departure in late 1970 to pursue a solo career, he was briefly replaced by former
Yes guitarist Peter Banks, but the band soon came to an end. However, in 1974, Mick Abrahams briefly reformed the group, and they recorded a BBC session for John Peel and a memorable performance for the 'In Concert’ programme.
This collection gathers together all the albums and singles recorded by Blodwyn Pig for Chrysalis Records in 1969 and 1970, along with the all the surviving sessions in the BBC archives recorded by the band between 1969 and 1974.
