Description
SEQUEL OF SORTS TO THE COMPILATION ‘YOU CAN WALK ACROSS IT ON THE GRASS’ (Grapefruit, 2024).
96 TRACKS OF FILM & TV MUSIC CAPTURING THE MOOD AND JOIE DE VIVRE OF THE SWINGING 60S.
UNLIKE PREVIOUS SUCH COMPILATIONS, ‘WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT’ IS UNIQUE IN COMBINING POPULAR AND HARD-TO-FIND MUSIC FROM TV PROGRAMMES AND FILMS, FEATURING NOT ONLY THEIR THEMES BUT TRACKS BY SOME OF THE COOLEST BANDS, WHO OFTEN PERFORMED AND STARRED IN THEM.
Boasts classic staples from legendary composers John Barry (James Bond), Laurie Johnson (The Avengers) and Sir John Dankworth (Accident), sundry ITC favourites (The Champions, Man In A Suitcase, The Saint) and the superb sounds of Supermarionation from Barry Gray & His Orchestra (Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet, etc.).
This 3CD box set is also packed to the rafters with popular R&B beat combos and psychedelic bands such as The Yardbirds, The Spencer Davis Group, Herman’s Hermits, Small Faces, Arthur Brown and Traffic. All of whom either performed in, or provided music for, various films such as Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush, Blow Up, Dateline Diamonds, To Sir With Love et al.
Into that mix we’ve added key Library music themes courtesy of DeWolfe, featuring The Noveltones (Vision On), Lemon Dips (The Haunted House Of Horror) and The Electric Banana alias The Pretty Things (What’s Good For The Goose).
All this plus some rare 45’s including Laurie Steele’s ‘Joe’s Theme’ (making its debut on CD) and Mike Vickers’ collectable Mod/Northern Soul side ‘On The Brink’, completes a package that hopefully provides plenty for the discerning Sixties music aficionado to enjoy.
An aural soundtrack for a generation who grew up listening, not only to great pop music, but a feast of TV and Film themes that in turn introduced them to music that would stay in their memory, long after they’d switched off the box or walked out of the cinema.
