Description
Meadow Meadow, the project of Peter Darlington and James Green, are today releasing 'Boundless', their first new music of the year. The track centres on a piano sequence that was recorded as an iPhone voice memo, and still survives as the main melodic element. Enveloped in layers of sub bass, triplet drum grooves and cello, 'Boundless' is full of twists and turns as their dual vocals float above the intricate production.
'Boundless' was written by James just before his daughter Evelyn was born, he explains: "I wanted to write about the feelings of opportunity and trepidation surrounding the birth and everything that would follow, feelings that are impossible to predict and would undeniably shift the way I viewed the world ("boundless worlds in front of us / colours floating up above")."Meadow Meadow is a collaboration between vocals and nylon-string guitar recordings, housed within a strange, electronic world. They incorporate elements of field recordings and synthesised textures to give the songs depth to create a psychedelic wonderland filled with life-affirming warmth.
Switching seamlessly between campfire-cosiness and a more expansive joy, their music is bursting with a giddy imagination and sonic treats that reward repeated listens.Peter and James spent the last half-decade or so touring extensively together in Spring King, where a unique friendship was born. They went from "barely knowing each other, to living in each other's pockets for six years", connecting deeply over the shared experience of growing up in towns surrounded by forests, lakes, reservoirs and canals.
After the breakdown of their previous band, their writing together became a meditative, healing process. Sharing demos between Manchester and London, the pair developed a distinct musical palette, using creativity as a "constant source of peace and catharsis". Themes of childhood nostalgia and the natural world are juxtaposed with a sense of loss and dystopian malaise. "Memory is strange, it connects seemingly disparate experiences toget
