Description
Les Paul and Mary Ford's impact and influence was immeasurable, not merely as singers and musicians but for their recording, mixing and studio practices, notably overdubbing, tape delay, phasing and multi-tracking.
Les was a full-on genius/visionary, totally re-imagining the design and acoustics of the electric guitar. Mary was an awesome singer, possessed of a mellifluous, extraordinarily versatile voice, which Les was able to multi-track to perfection.
During the early 1950s they became the first "modern" Pop stars, their cutting-edge techniques yielding a run of enormous hits, which crossed the musical genres. 'How High The Moon' topped the U.S. charts for 9-weeks, while 'Vaya Con Dios' spent 11-weeks at No.1.
This compilation presents all their U.S. Top 20 records between 1945 and 1955, including a couple backing other big names before they made it themselves, and a bonus track of a 45 which only made it to #23.
