The Poll Winners label is devoted to the reissue of albums that received the maximum 5-Star review ratings in the iconic jazz magazine, DownBeat, this release contains the complete and long unavailable original Columbia 4LP set, The Fletcher Henderson Story - A Study in Frustration". This was the first LP collection to compile the best works of Fletcher Henderson who, by the early 1960s, had fallen into obscurity. Even though his recording career spanned over 25 years and his many bands included some of the most outstanding jazzmen ever, his name would only be brought up during later years in reference to his hit-arrangements for the Benny Goodman Orchestra, while his own important contribution to jazz has generally, been overlooked.
This set puts together all the masterpieces presented on the original collection, as well as ten bonus tracks featuring Ben Webster, Chu Berry, and Roy Eldridge with the Henderson band.
