  • Description

Phil Tanner was one these islands' greatest traditional folk singers. He ranks alongside Harry Cox and The Copper Family, but is one of the few source singers to have come out of South Wales.

This is an important release of archival recordings made in 1937 and 1949 by Columbia records and the BBC and the sound restoration has been carried out by the legendary Charlie Crump.

The CD begins with an evocative 1970s Radio 4 broadcast made by the renowned Welsh author Wynford Vaughan Thomas, who first described Phil Tanner as the 'Gower Nightingale'.
