Description
Patti Wicks is a singer and pianist in the tradition of Jeri Southern, Shirley Horn and Paolo Conte. Her throaty voice and subtle lyrical readings, blended with her contemplative piano work, movingly express the sensuality and complexity of love. This album is a selection of 14 rueful ballads, affectingly demonstrating Patti's conviction that jazz singing should communicate basic emotions.
Apart from a couple of solo tracks she is accompanied simply by Keter Betts (double bass) and Joe Labarbera (drums), performing such songs as "After You", "An Empty Glass", "Body And Soul", "If You Could See Me Now", "When Summer Turns To Snow" and "On Second Thought". The renowned jazz singer Carol Sloane has said of the album.
This is simply a knockout CD of gorgeous ballads. But a word of caution. Late nights or early morning hours alone with Patti's voice and (her selection of) songs may produce strong emotional reactions. -
