Martha Argerich is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of the second half of the 20th Century.
This album showcases the first release of the outstanding live recording by Argerich of one of her favourite concertos, Shostakovich's Concerto for piano, trumpet and string orchestra in C minor, Op.35. Argerich is joined by trumpeter Jakub Waszczeniuk and accompanied by her long-time musical collaborator Alexander Rabinovich-Barakovsky with the Sinfonia Varsovia. Rabinovich is responsible for coupling the Concerto with the light-spirited Symphony no. 9.
The recording was made during the Chopin and His Europe International Music Festival, 19 August and 28 August 2006 at the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall in Warsaw.
