Description
Recorded during the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano
Competition, Warsaw 2021, Kyohei Sorita is the next pianist to join the Blue Label series, celebrating unique music portraits of the most interesting personalities of the International Chopin Piano Competition.
"It's because of [Chopin's] music that I continue to play the piano," said Kyohei Sorita in an interview with the Chopin Courier after the results of the 18th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition had been announced.
Sorita, who remembers watching the 2005 Competition on TV as a child, waited longer than many pianists to enter the Warsaw contest, and his maturity showed consistently throughout October 2021: he stood out for his developed musical personality.
In the final reckoning, he was placed joint second (with Alexander Gadjiev), becoming the first Japanese pianist to win such a high place in the Chopin Competition since Mitsuko Uchida took second prize in 1970.
