  • Description

Musical Icons is a bold and contemplative journey into the spiritual and expressive potential of the classical guitar. Performed by Norwegian guitarist Ole Martin Huser-Olsen, this album brings together three contemporary Nordic composers whose works explore sacred themes through striking musical language and intimate textures. Henrik Odegaard's Antiphona X Sumite psalmum jucundum con cithara (2020) opens the program with a meditative triptych inspired by Gregorian chant and liturgical form. His closing piece, Light in the Dark (2021), offers a brief yet luminous reflection on hope and transcendence. Ewa Serafin's Lite Rekviem - Small Requiem (2021) is a deeply personal and lyrical cycle, unfolding the traditional Requiem Mass in six movements that balance fragility and strength, sorrow and serenity. Jon Mostad's Musical Icons (2019-21) forms the centerpiece of the album. These six movements draw from biblical texts and imagery, each a sonic icon that evokes awe, mystery, and spiritual depth. From the fiery drama of In storm and consuming fire to the quiet grace of Our Father, Mostad's music invites reflection and reverence. Ole Martin Huser-Olsen's interpretations are marked by clarity, sensitivity, and a profound connection to the music's spiritual core. Musical Icons is not only a showcase of contemporary Nordic composition, but also a testament to the guitar's ability to speak in sacred tones. Ole Martin Huser-Olsen is one of Norway's leading classical guitarists, known for his refined technique and adventurous programming. He has premiered numerous contemporary works and is a passionate advocate for expanding the guitar repertoire through collaboration and exploration.
