This fall, Niclas Rydh releases his debut album. It is titled Spacening and is the result of a life spent in the service of music. The compositions are written with the rhythm section in mind - Kjell Jansson (bass) and Anders Kjellberg (drums) - two musicians Rydh has admired since the early 1990s. The pieces are constructed with their unique sound and groove in mind, giving the music a rare sense of interplay. And the harmonies? They are anything but conventional. Inspired by classical modernism - Stravinsky, Alban Berg, and their harmonic explorations. It is a fascinating balancing act between tradition and innovation. Niclas Rydh has been one of Sweden's most in-demand trombonists for over three decades. This fall, he releases his first album as a "frontman" - at the age of 58. Better late than never, one might say. When Niclas Rydh joined the Bohuslan Big Band in 1990, he was 22 years old and a newly minted bass trombonist. He stayed there for 25 years - at the back of the section, far from the spotlight. But the music spoke for itself.
