Description
In the resonant acoustics of the Kartause Mauerbach, an important event in early music took place: the debut recording of the young lutenist Evangelina Mascardi. Born in Buenos Aires in 1977 and considered one of the most prominent lute players on the international scene. On this recording the carefully compiled program is a profound statement, a musical dialogue across time and style that juxtaposes the two giants of the late Baroque lute: Sylvius Leopold Weiss and Johann Sebastian Bach. Through her masterful artistry, Mascardi presents herself as an impressive talent and sensitively explores the essence of the lute repertoire. Over the last decade she has collaborated regularly as a continuo-player with various ensembles, including Jordi Savall (Hesperion XXI), Marc Minkowsky (Les Musiciens du Louvre), and Simon Rattle (Berliner Philarmoniker). Nowadays, she confines her collaboration to Ensemble Zefiro (Alfredo Bernardini) and Monteverdi Choir (Sir John Eliot Gardiner), in order to mainly focus on solo lute repertoire.
