Description
Carl Ludwig Hubsch and Ignaz Schick had been aware of each other for quite some time, but met in person only a few years ago. From then on they collaborated on various occasions, ranging from duos to large ensemble configurations, exploring improvised, conceptual, and composed situations. They connected instantly, sharing a common kind of humor, freshness, and fearlessness in musical material, approach, and practice. In summer 2022, they met at Hubsch's estate in Cologne and spent an afternoon improvising. During this recording session, both artists limited themselves to their novel sound sources: extended voice (Hubsch) and voltage-controlled sampler (Schick). The session was about exploring new ground, navigating unfamiliar terrain based on a blind understanding. The resulting music blurs the lines between abstracted song, instant/concrete poetry, noise improvisation, extended sonic exploration, and experimental radio play. The resulting is quite intense, often fast-moving, and sometimes just hilarious. In early 2024 they met for another live recording session at Morphine Raum in Berlin, this time also using their primary instruments tuba and turntable. An edited excerpt of this two set session make up this album. Hubsch is a renowned tuba player, improvisor and composer. Ignaz Schick is a Berlin based sound artist, composer & visual artist. He also performs as instrumentalist on turntables, sampler, objects, electronics & alto/baritone saxophone. Track list: 1. If You Think So 2. Don't Breathe 3. Medley/Lonely Woman 4. You Like This
