Description
The hybrid SACD "Crossroads" features a group of five musicians from the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra who call themselves NedSym Lite. On this disc they perform arrangements of works from the less serious area of the classical and popular repertoire by composers including Vernon Duke, Fritz Kreisler, Sholem Secunda, Astor Piazzolla, Cole Porter, Johannes Brahms, Joseph Kosma, Rob van Bavel, Anne-Marie Chorinsky-Hardegg and the ensemble's artistic director Tim Nobel. The set also includes versions of some traditional pieces.
In 2011 the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra decided to branch out into styles of music considered less serious or 'heavy' and formed the ensemble known as NedSym Lite. The group consists of Robert Windak (first violin), Annemarie van Viegen (second violin), Eva Suslikova (viola), Don Hofstee (guitar) Tim Nobel (double bass, artistic director and arranger). NedSym Lite excels in incorporating a wide variety of musical styles including gypsy music and jazz, as well as arrangements of popular works by the great composers.
