Description
The second of two outstanding Max Steiner reissues this month comes in the form of his score for the 1948 film 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre'. 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre', directed by John Huston and starred Humphrey Bogart, is one of Steiner's best remembered scores, and gathered recognition by winning The Venice World Award in 1948. Although the film was a critical success, it did not have the box office appeal Warners had hoped for, however, its reputation has grown over the years and it is now considered one of the true classic American films. There have been previous suites recorded from this score, which amounted to highlights of the main thematic material. This however is a substantially complete recording - a couple of cues that ran only for a few seconds have been eliminated and also some of the repetitious sections in the last third of the film.
