Description
This hybrid SACD presents compositions and improvisations written and performed by three excellent pianists: Michael Gees, Marion von Tilzer, and Frans Ehlhart. All of these artists are considered to be leading experts in their own specific area of music.
Pianist Michael Gees is mostly known as an accompanist of Lieder. He has worked regularly with artists such as Christoph Prégardien and Julia Kleiter. As a soloist he mostly improvises, often starting with a single chord and developing the melodies from there. In contrast Austrian-born composer/pianist Marion von Tilzer is very much a composer, having previously written both chamber music and orchestral works. She is particularly known for her talent of merging completely different styles in a surprising and original way. Her synthesis of Indian classical music with contemporary western music has led to collaborations with musicians, choreographers and filmmakers from different parts of the world as a composer and performer with her own groups. Frans Ehlhart was born in Australia. The son of a Hungarian mother and a Dutch father he has lived in Holland since 1950. After studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam he chose a career in jazz and music theatre over a career in classical music.
