Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, Spain had never featured in the high rankings of the Warsaw contest.
Focusing here purely on Chopin, he made a consistently good impression, going on in addition to his main prize to win the Warsaw Philharmonic's special Prize for the Best Performance of a Concerto—despite, or perhaps because, of playing the less 'favoured' work in the Final, the Concerto in F minor.
