  • Description

Released for the very first time in collaboration with the musicians' respective estates, Live At Yoshi's 1994 presents Mal Waldron and Steve Lacy in a programme built around compositions mainly by Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington and Bill Strayhorn. Also includes Steve Lacy's original 'Prayer' and Mal Waldron's 'SnakeOut', plus their joint composition 'Blues'. Outside of the main programme are Bud Powell's 'I'll Keep Loving You', and Elmo Hopes's 'Roll On'.

    • Remastered from the original tapes.
    • Limited edition 2CD set & 2LP 180g vinyl set - deluxe presentation.
    • Includes exclusive photos by Hugo Peeters and a special essay by renowned jazz author Kevin Whitehead.

Jazz has always been the home of great partnerships. Those that immediately come to mind are , Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, Lester Young and Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane and his Classic Quartet, Bill Evans and Scott LaFaro, but there's also one partnership deserving of more attention - the collaborations between pianist Mal Waldron (1925 -2002) and saxophonist Steve Lacy (1934 - 2004).

    Mal Waldron: piano
    Steve Lacy: soprano saxophone

Live At Yoshi's, Oakland, California, June 8, 1994.
Produced by Jordi Soley and Carlos Agustin Calembert.
Original audio tapes kindly provided by Patrick Wilen & Hiromi Waldron
